General Information

To be eligible for most Academy Awards categories, a feature film must open during the calendar year in a qualifying commercial motion picture theater and play for seven consecutive days.

The producer or distributor of the film must then fill out an Oscars Submission Form on this Awards Submissions site, which provides the Academy with verified production credits in fields in which Oscars are awarded. Submission of this form is an important step to qualifying a film and its creators for Academy Awards. Information from the credits forms is also used for nominations announcements and press releases, as well as for the Scientific and Technical Awards, historical records and the Academy's Motion Picture Credits database.

Special rules apply to awards in the Documentary, International Feature, Animated Feature and Short Film categories. For a complete set of rules, please refer to the Rules & Eligibility page.

Registration and User Account

1. How do I begin an Academy Awards submission?

To submit a film for Academy Awards consideration, you will first need to register. Click on the Register link in above menu. Fill out the registration form. When you click Submit, you will be taken to your account page, where you will select the specific category or categories for which you are registering. Please include the film’s title and your professional connection to the film (producer, director, marketing representative, etc.) in your registration request.

2. Will my old User ID and password work?

Yes. If you submitted films at https://submissions.oscars.org last year, you will not be required to re-register or reset your password. (OSFs submitted in previous years, however, will not be accessible.) If you attempt to create a new account (re-register) using an email address already in the system, you will receive an error message.

Please see the FAQ I've forgotten my password; how do I recover it? for instructions on resetting your password.

3. I’m an Academy member; can I use my Member User ID and password?

Yes. If you have an existing Member or RSVP account, you may use those login credentials to log in at https://submissions.oscars.org. You will still need to request submission approval to the different categories.

4. I've forgotten my User ID; how do I recover it?

Please click here to contact us.

If you attempt to create a new account (re-register) using an email address already in the system, you will receive an error message. Please log in as a registered submitter, using this email address as your User ID, and follow the above instructions for re-setting your password.

5. I signed up for an ID, but I haven't heard anything. What should I do?

Every new User ID must be reviewed/approved by AMPAS. This may take up to 48 hours. If after this time, you have not received an email confirming the approval of your User ID, please click here to contact us.

6. I've forgotten my password; how do I recover it?

Please click Login > Forgot Password to reset your password.

7. I bookmarked the login page, but when I try to log on, I get an error message.

For security reasons, the login page is set to expire after a short period and will not work if you attempt to log on after it has timed out. To avoid this issue, please bookmark and begin each session on the landing page of the site: https://submissions.oscars.org.
